SUPER EAGLES stand-in coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has disclosed that he has been acting on the orders of the national team foreign technical adviser, Lars Lagerback.
The former Torpedo Moscow of Russia defender noted that, his decision to accept the role as the Eagles stand-in coach was infuenced by the Swede coach who asked him to go ahead in a telephone conversation.
Eguavoen stated that he wouldn't have accepted the assignment to take the national team to Korea for an international friendly if Lagerback had not told him to do so.
" I have been speaking regularly with the technical adviser and he strongly believes that the Nigerian team would become a great squad in a couple of years to come.
"He is interested in the Eagles job and he has told me that he would be coming to Nigeria at the end of this month to tie all necessary agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation."
Eguavoen stressed that, while in-charge of the Eagles for the Korea friendly, he would regularly brief his boss on the situation of things in the team.
Meanwhile, as the NFF are patiently waiting for the Swede coach to report to his duty post for a five-year extension deal, the federation has placed former Eagles striker, Samson Siasia, on standby to handle the team should in case Lagerback eventually changed his mind on the Nigerian job.
NFF president, Aminu Maigari, said at the weekend that, in a situation whereby Lagerback resumes for the job, Siasia would still be one of his assistant coaches in a move to prepare the young coach for future endeavours.
