Crisis rocked Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State at the weekend, as commercial motorcyclists, often called Okada riders, protested alleged multiple levies and extortion.
The development, however, stirred public outcry as residents condemned the alleged extortion by suspected agents of the council.
The cyclists had thronged the council secretariat to register their protest, saying that the multiple levies were affecting their lives and hampering their ability to survive the harsh economic environment.
They condemned the alleged insensitivity of the council’s levy policies on them, adding that they were not aware of the newly-introduced N10 ticket.
It was learnt that payment of an earlier ticket, which triggered off the protest, was stopped by the Isoko Development Union (IDU), pending when the matter would be resolved.
