ON Wednesday, Nigeria Leadership Initiative (NLI), an international non-profit organisation and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network premiered its new film, Notes2Note as part of its

commitment towards creating an opportunity for young leaders.

The event was held at the Genesis Deluxe Cinemas. Last night, a broadcast of the video was aired on TV and radio stations on the channels of Silverbird TV and Inspiration FM.

The animation film features the voice narrations of MI, Kate Henshaw-Nuttall, Sasha, Bouqui, Omawumi, Aisha Augie-Kuta, TY Bello, Chioma Omeruah and the Roof Top MCs. It narates Nigeria’s rich history using the country’s fiscal currency (naira notes) to illustrate the core values of the country’s founding fathers.

Notes2Note is a project under NLI’s Clever initiative. It includes other initiatives such as the Wordslam competition where youths write lines for poetry and lyrics of songs. There’s also a Clever Club, which gives students an opportunity to take responsibility for transforming the country by developing a sense of civic responsibility.

Authorities of NLI say their goal is that by the third year of implementation, the Clever initiative will be institutionalised and self sustaining through a combination of private sector support, and partnership with the federal and state governments.

“The early 1960’s was an exhilarating time to be a Nigerian. We had gained independence and Nigerian youth exhibited an insatiable thirst for education and innovation in different spheres of life. During the time, strong values and a sense of community were the fabric of Nigerian society, and Nigerians upheld values in their everyday activities. Today, this is just not the case,” noted Tunde Olanrewaju, co-chair of the NLI Management Board.

Yinka Odeleye, an NLI associate informed: “NLI believes that one step to getting the country back on track is to reach out to young people during their formative years to start reinforcing values necessary to rebuild a good society. This was the driving impetus for the conception of Notes2Note. It is incorporated to promote 10 values that were identified by Nigerians in a National Essay Competition as important for building a good society.”

The values are integrity, industry, compassion, justice and equity, tolerance, siscipline, family values, contentment, spirituality and patriotism.

NLI was founded in 2006 by Olusegun Aganga, who is the current Minister of Finance and then Chairman of the Board of the Bretton-Woods Institutes, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) along with Dr. Christopher Kolade CON (Pro-Chancellor, Pan African University and former Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom).
