The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Muharazu Ismail Tsiga, has assured corps members posted to Bauchi, Borno, Plateau and Gombe states that their lives and property are secure
Speaking to the new corps members at the Wailo Orientation Camp in Bauchi State yesterday, he said that all relevant security agencies, the police, the State Security Service (SSS), the Nigerian Civil Defence and Security Corps (NCDSC) and key stakeholders have been alerted on their safety while in camp and where they will be posted for their primary assignment.
According to him, security issue is a great challenge in the country and it is a collective responsibility of all concerned citizens at both the state and federal levels.
He urged the corps members to distance themselves from association, religious and other activities in the communities that would ignite or result to violence.
“Wherever you are posted to as a place of your primary assignment, accept it in good faith and do what is expected of you and disassociate yourself from making public statements that would cause crisis in the communities,” he said.
According to him, the youth are throwing challenges to the leaders and those in authority in the country because of their unique approch to unity.
His words: “NYSC is the only treasure that the country has and nobody in place of authority would compromise with their welfare and the smooth running of the programme”.
He said that the NYSC, apart from uniting Nigerians, is also an avenue where leadership training is acquired, calling on the camp staff not to give the corps members military training but leadership orientation.
He said that because of the recent Jos crisis, he extended the registration period for another one week for Bauchi, Plateau, Gombe and Borno.
