Ebonyi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a 47-man Elders Committee to mediate between the party and any aggrieved member.
Its South-East Zonal Chairman, Chief Olisa Metuh, while inaugurating the committee at the party’s secretariat, Abakaliki, the state capital, during a special expanded meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC), said that the committee would ensure the resolution of any crisis within and outside the party.
Metuh said that the inauguration of the committee, headed by Mr. Okeagu Ogadah, was in line with the directive of the PDP’s National Executive Committee.
He charged members to discharge their duties with fairness and equity, without fear or favour.
At the inauguration which preceded the flagging off of the party’s local government sensitisation rally, Metuh stressed the need for members to be self- reliant.
He noted that the rally he flagged off was part of the party’s sensitisation efforts towards next year’s election and not to campaign for any particular candidate since the party was yet to organise its primaries.
The Deputy Governor, Professor Chigozie Ogbu, who represented Governor Martin Elechi at the ceremony, appealed to the party at both the national and zonal levels, as well as the Federal Government, to always give the state a favourable consideration in sharing of appointments and other largesse.
He said that no organisation can succeed without discipline and obedience to the rule of law.
